[EX-2K7] Can't dismount database due to corrupt Recovery Storage Group, alternative?
Hi! We're having the following problem. There was a RSG database mounted but the RSG files on the harddrive were deleted manually, till the point where it says that the .mdb still was in use. At that point it was already too late (shift-delete was used). Now we are unable to dismount the database. It is being locked by a process but I don't know which one. In this topic: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/064deb33-110e-4159-af56-f4abcb1abfbc I've read that a server reboot worked out. But this is a 24/7 live server. It is in a 3 server cluster though. Is there any way to force/kill the dismount of a database or kill the process that is keeping it locked? Kind regards, Dennis de Vries

I think rebooting or restart the IS service are the only choices. That would probably be the "safest" way to attempt to fix this w/o causing yourself more issues trying to force something.

If you don't want to reboot the server like Andy was talking about I think you could try to recreate the same database name in the drive path and then try to dismount the database. If that doesn't work another option would be to use ADSIEdit and blow away the database. Chris cbfive.com

Thank you both for your input. While I was investigating which process was holding the database mount with Process Explorer, I got a server reset after requesting which server handle's and dll's were used via Process Explorer. So the server rebooted unintentionally. Problem is solved now though. Since the reboot solved the problem, i'm assigning Andy's answer as a solution. I will try the ADSIedit trick next time, thx!
